Card Class on March 10th

Hi All.

I'll be presenting 3 regular cards and 4 notecards in a card class on Sunday, March 10th.  This will be at 2pm at the Camarillo United Methodist Church and the Materials fee will be $10.

YOU MUST LET ME KNOW YOU PLAN TO COME BY SUNDAY, MARCH 3rd, to be INCLUDED.  That way I can have enough materials prepared for everyone.

Here's a preview of what we'll make:

This embossed card is super simple, but super impressive if your recipient doesn't know the "tricks" of embossing. Come make this one and impress someone. :>)

PS  I'm loving this "Swallowtail" stamp!

This one is, by far, the most involved project for this class but it does make an impressive looking card.  More embossing, some die-cutting, a little ribbon and a brad you get to make yourself to match your card perfectly make for an elegant card for someone special.  You'll have the option of this or one of three other sentiments.

Here's a closer look at that brad you'll put together.  You can make the center anything you want!  I used a bit of paper punched out from paper matching a strip on the inside of the card and backed it with the dark brown and red cardstock to make it stand out.  Come find out how.

Here's the set of notecards.  You can make these or play with the stamp set to create your own ideas with the provided materials.  I'm enjoying the giant polka dot stamp I used to make the backgrounds.

Here are closer views of the notecards:

I love this adorable stamp!  Yes, this is made with one stamp, now being sold individually.  I can show you how to stamp all three bunnies at once to make this simple card for Spring.  The rhinestones just add a touch of bling to this super-quick card.

I hope you can join me for class on March 10th.  Please remember I MUST know by March 3rd.

If you'd like to know more about any other products used in these card, please contact me.  Thanks!

Other dates to think about:

Email from February 8, 2013 (in case you're not on my list)

HI Crafty Folks,

It's been longer than I had anticipated since I last contacted you. My time has been spent dealing with the flu (3 times - various family members), replacing my paperweight (dead cell-phone) and falling down like a tree. I'd like to be able to tell you I fell while rescuing a small child from a burning building but, no such luck. I simply fell over myself. My cat stared at me...

Okay then, on to telling you about the opportunities I have to offer you right now: Three events are coming up and I have a lot to tell you about offerings through Stampin' Up!

First event: CARD BUFFET ON FEBRUARY 15th -- 7pm - Midnight -- 351 S. "F" Street, Oxnard

Join me for an evening of Card Making or try your hand at a 12 x 12 scrapbooking layout. Projects I've designed will be available, with all the necessary tools and supplies to make them, between 7 pm and Midnight. Bring your own SNAIL (double-sided tape) and pay only $1.50 per card. If you forget your SNAIL you can buy one from me for $7.00 ($4.50 for a refill) or pay $2.00 per card. The Scrapbook layout (2 pages for one price) will be $7.00, or $8.00 if you use my SNAIL. Come when you want and go when you want. I can point you toward an all night drive-thru for caffeine on the way home. :>) You can check out these designs on my blog under the title, "February Card Buffet Coming Soon" . www.marciaplayswithpaper.blogspot.com Please let me know if you plan to attend.

Second Event: Christmas Scrapbooking Pages Class -- February 17th -- 2 pm until ? -- 291 Anacapa Drive, Camarillo

We'll make two full 2-page, 12x12 layouts for your Christmas memories. This is another class through Camarillo United Methodist's Center for Creative Learning. We'll meet in Brooks Hall to preserve our pictures and thoughts. I'll bring everything you need except the pictures. Class fee is $17.00. See the designs on my blog under the title, "Christmas Scrapbooking Class on February 17th".

www.marciaplayswithpaper.blogspot.com If you plan to attend this class, I MUST know by THIS SUNDAY, February 10th, by 2pm so I can order and prepare all needed materials. Yes, of course, we can change the year on the page.

Something to think about: Have you ever thought about having a Catalog Party? If you're like me, you don't really have a place to host a Stampin' Up! Party in your home. If that's the case and you want to build up your Papercrafting Supplies, you can have your own Catalog Party. It's simple, just get catalogs from me and take them around to your friends who you think would enjoy Stampin' Up! products. Collect their orders and we can submit them together as a party. That way, you get HOSTESS BENEFITS (free stuff)! If you find a group of people who would like to do this, we could set up a club and you could rotate Hostess Benefits each time. Who do YOU know who might bite at that idea? Now's a GREAT time to think about it because right now is Sale-a-Bration TIme!!!

What's Sale-a-Bration, you ask? Crafty people refer to it as "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year". :>) During Sale-a-Bration the following things happen:

--> EVERYONE who orders gets a free item (19 items available -- from buttons and ribbons to full stamp sets) for EVERY $50 worth of products they order (before S+H and tax).

--> A Hostess who has a $150 party gets a free set of Silver Glimmer Paper PLUS Sale-a-Bration items she earns PLUS regular Hostess Benefits. In addition, any of her GUESTS who submit am order of at least $50 get THEIR free Sale-a-Bration item or items, free.

--> A Hostess who has a $400 party will also get a free Hostess Bundle of 3 Sale-a-Bration Items

--> A person who joins the Stampin' Up! Family as a demonstrator during Sale-a-Bration will receive 25% more items in their STarter Kit.

Fun, huh? I think so. :>) What else?

Oh yeah, Event number Three: Spring Card Class -- March 10th - 2 pm - ? Choir Room at Camarillo United Methodist (291 Anacapa Drive)

We'll be making three regular cards and up to 4 notecards for Spring and I'll provide everything you need. Check back to my blog soon. I have the pictures taken but haven't had a chance to post them yet. The class materials fee will be $10 and I need to know you're coming by March 3rd.

The Sent WIth Love Kit (see it here: http://www.stampinup.net/esuite/home/playwithmarcia/promotions ) is available now through April 30th. It's a sweet group of products for love notes ANY time of year as it's not really Valentine oriented.

The "Best of 25 Years" Stamps for Stampin' Up!'s 25th anniversary are available now, one set per month. Check out, "Best of Birthdays," ( http://www.stampinup.com/ECWeb/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=132929 ) and, "Best of Love" ( http://www.stampinup.com/ECWeb/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=132987 ). They're each $14.95 each and each set consists of much loved stamps drawn from set inthe past, as well as one new stamp in each month's set. Save up you proof of purchases and you'll be able to get a FREE set ($14.95 and under) for every 6 "Best of" sets you purchase over the course of the year.

ONE MORE THING! Are you still reading?

Have you ever been to one of my classes and thought, "I can't do that at home. I don't have all that stuff!" or "I don't have time to come up with projects." ? My Paper Pumpkin is a new program offered by Stampin' Up!. meant to address exactly these "problems". Oh, buying stuff from me and coming to Card Buffets will do that too. :>) But I digress...

My Paper Pumpkin is a craft kit which will be shipped to you monthly when you sign up for the program. These projects can be done in about half an hour and everything is provided. We call it your monthly creativity escape! There's no minimum term and you can skip a month by going online and cancelling for the month (you DO have to do it in time). Check it our here on the new website for the product : If it sounds like this might be for you, check out www.mypaperpumpkin.com . It's fun to just take a look if nothing else. The cost is $19.95 per month and that includes shipping charges. If you decide to sign up, I'd appreciate it if you would sign me in as your demonstrator. Thanks!

So much to do, so little time!!!

I hope to see you soon.

Thanks!

Christmas Scrapbooking Class on February 17th

As the rest of the world stares at the dark field for the Superbowl, I thought I'd tell you about my upcoming class.  On February 17th, at 2 pm, I'll be offering a class to make 2 full 12x12 scrapbook layouts (that's 4 pages) for Christmas photos and memories.  The class will be at the Methodist Church in Camarillo and will have a $17 materials fee.   You MUST sign up by 2 pm on February 10th to be included as I need to have time to order and prepare materials.

What will we make, you ask?

  Here's the first layout:

You can view the products mentioned on my website by clicking on the links, below.

The Christmas Tree is made with shapes punches with Stampin' Up!'s ornament punch (119847 - $16.95) and decorated with the small ornament / candle flame punch from the "Merry Minis Punch Pack" (126882 - $16.95) which also includes a Christmas Tree punch and a Star punch (at the top of the tree).  It's a little hard to see, but I used the "Petals-a-Plenty Embossing Folder" (116824 - $7.95 -- used with the Big Shot) to emboss the red matting.  If you remind me, I'll bring extra embossing folders to the class so you can emboss the gifts with other patterns if you'd like.

Here it is a little closer.

Closer yet.  Here you can see that each of the ornaments I used to make the tree are stamped with the "Delightful Decorations Stamp Set" (W116517 - $21.95 / C127787 - $16.95) and I used the Silver Glimmer Paper (124005 - $4.95/2 sheets of 12 x 12).  You can see the embossing on the red matting a little better here.

Here are Santa and Mrs. Claus (based on a design by Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, Veronica Vasquez), ready to hold your pictures.  Believe me, I'm CERTAINLY not caught up on MY scrapbooking so the 2012 is merely a suggestion.  You can make it any year you'd like or change the wording altogether as long as it fits.

Here's that Silver Glimmer Paper again.  You can get it FREE during Sale-a-Bration (through March 22nd) if you order more than $150 worth of Stampin' Up! products.  That's in addition to your THREE FREE Sale-a-Bration items and FREE Hostess Goodies if you are or have your own party.  See my entry about the February Card Buffet for more info.

There is sponging to add depth here.  Sorry it's hard to see in the pictures.

And here's Mrs. Claus with a bit of ribbon and a broach.  Her collar is made with the Scallop Trim Border Punch (118402 - $15.95).

I'd love to help you make these pages to add to your scrapbooks or get one started.  Just remember you need to let me know by 2 pm on February 10th.  Thanks!

February Card Buffet Coming soon.

It's February and I think I missed January.  There were the 3 bouts of the mercifully mild flu in the house, the hives on the Boychild, my falling down like a tree, and the month is OVER!  For those of you who missed it, I sprained my shoulder 2 1/2 weeks ago when I caught a toe in the opposite pants leg and crashed to the ground.  Ugh!  Fortunately, nothing's broken and I've very grateful for that.

Due to the aforementioned circumstances beyond my control, it wasn't until a couple of days ago when I really sat down to get some cards and pages ready for you.  Are you ready?  I'll be posting Christmas Scrapbook pages for a class on February 17th in a separate post.  I have an upcoming Card Class on March 10th too.

Alrighty, the February Card Buffet will be on Friday, February 15th between 7pm and Midnght, in Oxnard.  Bring your double-sided tape and come make the designs you want to make.  I'm trying something new this year by adding a scrapbooking layout to my Card Buffets.  I'm going to do this for a few months and see how it goes.  The price for cards will be $1.50 (or $2.00 if you use my tape) and this month's pages will be $7.00 ($8.00 if you use my tape).  It will be a two page 12 x 12 layout.  I'll have SNAIL (double-sided tape) available for purchase if you would like to buy one ($7.00 or $4.50 for a refill).

All links, below, are to my direct website where you can view and purchase Stampin' Up! products.
You can find more information about getting some of them FREE, below.

Here's one of the two pages (half the layout).  I used the stamp set  Betsy's Blossoms (W126004 - $28.95 / C126006 - $21.95) with the Scallop Trim Border Punch  (118402 - $15.95) and the Floral District Designer Series Paper (126919 - $10.95) on this one.

And here's a detail shot.

I seem to have had birthdays on the brain when I started designing for this month.  3 of the 5 are birthday cards.  The first uses the adorable new "Henry Says" stamp set (W128090 $29.95 / C128093 - $21.95).  It's great for Congratulations, Christmas, and Party Invitations as well as birthdays.  Click the link to see the cute set in the Spring Catalog.

Here's the inside with some cheerful little birds.

This Birthday Card was designed for "Auntie" at Scrapbook Blessings in Newbury Park. If you know the store you're sure to have seen "Auntie" keeping it spic and span and occasionally providing guidance for a wayward scrapbooker.  :>)  Some of us surprised her for her 80th birthday at a recent crop.  She's an awfully spry lady for 80!  I used the "Bring on the Cake" stamp set  (W121899 - $38.95 / C 126006 - $27.95) for the sentiment and the "Creative Elements" stamp set (W122645 - $32.95 - C122647 - $24.95) for the background.  I also used our two butterfly punches, "Elegant Butterfly" (127526 - $15.95) and "Bitty Butterfly"   (129406 - $15.95) and Victoria Ribbon  (118481 - $6.95/ 5 yards).

My wicked sense of humor also seems to have manifested itself during designing time.  This birthday card might be a little rude but it could be perfect for the right person.  This is Stampin' Up!'s 25th year and a themed "Best of" set of stamps will come out each month, featuring stamps from over the years and one new stamp.  January's set was "Best of Birthdays" (132929 - $14.95) and I HAD to use this cake.  You can check out the February set,  "Best of Love" (132987 - $14.95) by clicking on the link.  This card also features a stripe of "Sunshine and Sprinkles Designer Series Paper" (126922 - $10.95) which really brightens things up.

Stampin' Up! also came out with a new stamp kit meant for GUYS in January!  When I saw that it had a "Cussing Stamp" I HAD to get it.  :>)  You could use this so many ways!  This one is actually a Get Well card but I can think of pictures I'd like to scrap with this and a LOT of cards to make.  The kit is called, "Dude, You're Welcome!" ( 132807 - $24.95) and comes with four stamps , 12 notecards with envelopes, an ink pad and an instruction manual, packed in a steel gray box ready for a man to explore his crafty side.  Do you know anyone who needs one?  ;>)

The last one for February's Buffet is made with a stamp set I got ABSOLUTELY FREE and you can too!  It's SALE-a-Bration time at Stampin' Up! For the uninitiated, this mean FREE STUFF. Click on the balloons on my homepage to see which of the 19 free products (stamp sets, punches, designer paper Digital Content, buttons and ribbon, etc.) you can get with EVERY $50 worth of products you purchase.  If you have a party, everyone can get free stuff, not just the hostess (you still get hostess goodies too!).  You can even have a "Catalog Party" if you want to gather orders from some friends and put them together.  As hostess you'd even get FREE  Silver Glimmer Paper if you party hits $150 or the Glimmer Paper AND a FREE Hostess Bundle if your party hits $400.  WOW!  Let me know if you're interested in booking a party or a Catalog Party.

This Stamp is on of 5 adorable stamps in its set.  I got it FREE!!!

Let me know if you plan to come out for the Buffet.  Hope to see you soon!

BAD Mama. Argh!

So, Honey, how'd your day go?

7:00am  Arise with the alarm without even fading back to sleep.
7:05am  Roust the Boychild from bed.
7:15am  Give Boychild, displaying moderate allergic symptoms common to him, some OTC allergy medication.
7:17 -7:46am  Prod Boychild into getting ready for school.
7:47am Exit house.  Release cat.  Take Boychild to school.
7:56am  Drop off Boychild at school.
8:05am  Pull over and try to check email on phone.  Not loading properly.
8:07am  Attempt to reset phone by turning it off and restarting.  Phone enters "loading loop".
8:10am  Phone still in loop.
8:15am  Phone will not respond to any commands.  Phone = paperweight.
8:16 - 10:23am  Proceed with chores.  Shop at Staples.  Shop at Target.  Post 2 packages at Newbury Park Post Office.
10:25am  Proceed up the hill to Scrapbook Blessings to continue work on party preparations for Boychild's birthday.
12:23pm  Boychild vomits on playground.  Goes to nurse's office.
12:29pm  Nurse calls phone.  Phone = paperweight.  Boychild, yowling.  Me, oblivious.
12:34pm  School secretary calls phone.  Phone = paperweight.
12:35pm  School secretary calls home.  No one there.
12:36pm  School secretary calls Husband.  His phone is secure in his car as per base security procedures.
12:36pm and 30 seconds  Boychild breaks out into hives.
12:37pm Nurse calls home.  STILL no one there.  Me, blissfully oblivious.
12:38pm  School secretary and School Nurse quietly consider what lousy parents we are.
12:45pm Nurse makes one last desperate attempt to contact me, requesting that I call her back.  Phone = paperweight
1:00pm I begin to pack up at Scrapbook Blessings.
1:23pm  Enter car and head back to school.
1:42pm  Arrive at school and calmly enter pick-up loop with PLENTY of time before dismissal.
2:05pm  Boychild enters car looking decidedly "blotchy".
2:05pm and 15 seconds  Boychild's teacher and additional adult descend upon the car wondering where the heck I've been, announce that Boychild has vomitted, now has hives, cannot be sent to school tomorrow, and that I've been called multiple times.
2:05pm and 34seconds  I proceed to feel guilty and show them my paperweight in my defense.
2:06pm  Proceed to pediatrician's office hoping to be squeezed in.
2:34pm  Doctor looks at Boychild and proclaims him "One Big Hive"

Yes, I DID manipulate this photo to make it look worse, but it WAS pretty bad.

2:46pm  Exit doctor's office  with prescription for antihistamine.
2:47 - 3:28pm  Get antihistamine and Calamine Lotion.  Proceed home.
3:37pm Dose Boychild with antihistamine.Wonder at the fact that his hives have all run together into one giant welt.
3:38pm Feed yowling cat.
3:39pm  Send Boychild in for cool shower (cool, so as not to make the hives worse).  Feel more guilty.
3:40pm  Call Husband to tell him he can disregard the messages.  He asks, "What messages?"
3:44pm  Send Boychild BACK into the shower to wash his hair.
3:50pm  Slather Boychild's entire torso, neck, and arms with Calamine Lotion giving him a ghostly patina.  Let him sit and read.
3:52pm Email teacher with apology and update.
3:53pm  Call and leave message for School secretary and nurse with apology and update.
5:50pm  Inflammation is gone.  Skin  in "welt zone" is still red (pink if you count the Calamine Lotion).
6:00pm Listen to messages on home phone.
6:07pm  Explain to Boychild that, while yowling may be a normal mode of communicating misery at home, it is considered extremely weird by most people and shouldn't be used as a means of communication outside our home.
6:20pm  Boychild appears and acts perfectly normal
6:22 - 6.34pm  Pet yowling cat who is desperate for attention and being neglected.
6:45 - 7:20pm  Boychild eats dinner of curry over rice.  Eats seconds.  Asks for thirds.  Is refused.
7:45pm  Husband and I write  up new procedures for contacting him in case of emergency.
8:00pm  Boychild is put to bed with no signs of there being anything wrong with him but is banned fron school for tomorrow.
8:01pm  Argh!

Why is it that the only day I've been called to pick him up in the 4 years he's been in school is the day the phone dies?  REALLY, why?

January brings Christmas Scrapbook pages and Valentines

Hi Folks. I hope the holidays were as enjoyable for you as they were for me. I (obviously) took a little time off from my Stampin' Up! business and now it's time to ramp up again. My 1st event for 2013 will be a Card Buffet on January 18th from 7pm until Midnight at our usual location in Oxnard, CA. If you'd like to come and don't know where that is, let me know and I can clue you in.

If you aren't familiar with the Card Buffet format, here's my explanation:

  • I prep several projects you can make (see below).
  • You let me know you plan to come and can attend at any time between 7 pm and Midnight.
  • You bring your own double-sided tape for the best prices. I can provide one for purchase ($7) if you wish or you'll pay extra per-project if you don't bring your own.
  • You choose the projects you want.
  • Make them and I'll help if you need assistance. My goal is to help make it easier for you.
  • You'll pay based on what you make that night and I'll be happy to sell you LOTS of beautiful Stampin' Up! items if you wish. Our Spring Catalog just came out and there are tons of new items in it. I'll be featuring some this month and in the months to come.
If you'd like a copy of the new Stampin' Up! Spring Catalog, just let me know and I'll get one to you.

Also, SALE-A-BRATION is coming this month! Yipee!!! If you' aren't familiar with it, you'll want to be. Think LOTS of free stuff!!!

Card prices for the January Buffet are $1.50 per card, or $2.00 per card if you use my SNAIL (double sided tape).

The 2 page, 12 x 12 Scrapbook layout will be $7.00, or $8.00 if you use my SNAIL.

Ready to see? Here we go.

Valentine 1:  This uses the cute new, "Henry Says," stamp set.  I also used the Small Heart Punch and our "Polka Dot Parade" Designer Series Paper.  The Stampin' Up! "Stampin' Distress Tool" was used to "rough up" the edges a little.  Cute lil' guy, ain't he?   :>)

Valentine 1 - inside

Valentine 2 shows off one use of the new, "Oh, Whale!" stamp set.  If you follow the link you'll find out how to purchase this set in Clear mount, wood mount,  and digital formats.  It also features the Jumbo Roller Stamp, "Oh, Wave!".  These are also set up to work beautifully for baby showers and announcements.  Sweet!   Don't miss the coordinating Designer Series Paper in the Spring Catalog.

I had a little fun with the starfish here on the inside.  :>)

This one is, as it says, "Just Because".  I used the "First Edition" Specialty Designer Series Paper and  a ABSOLUTELY FREE Sale-a-Bration stamp set for this one.  Come out Friday night to see what I'm talking about.

This 4th card uses our scoring board's new Borders Scoring Plate, beautiful DSP, our large (8mm) rhinestones, and ANOTHER ABSOLUTELY FREE stamp set for SALE-A-BRATION!

This is the inside.

Here's my 2 page layout for Sanata and Mrs. Claus.  Thanks to Veronica Vasquez for the original idea I took and modified.  The format is true 12 x 12 . I used our Silver Glimmer Paper and a rhinestone for a little sparkle.  These would be great for pictures of a visit with Santa but would work as well for general Christmas pictures.  I'll bring myBig Shot and dies so you can cut out letters to say whatever you like.

Collar detail:

Our last option for January uses our new "Core'dinations Cardstock".  This is WONDERFUL cardstock!  I used it here with my Big Shot Machine and new honeycomb embossing folder.  The Core'dinations cardstock has a lighter colored center so tearing, embossing, and sanding all lend to different fun looks.

I hope you can come out and play with me on Friday.  I'd love to visit and catch up.

Christmas Cards you didn't have time to make...

Hi All.

It's almost December and I've been making Christmas cards since September.  I'm ready to go with the bunch we're sending.  Okay, I'm still awaiting approval from my hubby for the Christmas Letter and I still need to get pictures printed.  I got the 70 done for the charity Auction at Scrapbook Blessings.  I hve a few left I'm willing to sell for $3.00 + tax apiece.  Please let me know ASAP if you'd like to purchase some.

This is the Silent Night Card, so named because the words to "Silent Night" are on the tree.

 I have 3 available.

This is the Dove Card.  Please note this is one to be HANDED to your loved ones because it's too thick to mail in a regular envelope.  If you wanted to mail it, you could use a padded envelope.

I have 2 available.

This is my personal favorite, the Stable Card.  It shows the simplicity of what I consider Christmas to be about.  It's hard to tell in the picture, but the Star is heat embossed and the wood of the stable was pressure embossed in the Big Shot, using the Woodgrain Embossing Folder and the Stampin' Up! Early Espresso Core'dinations cardstock.  The lighter color is at the core of the cardstock.  After embossing it, I sanded it down to expose the lighter color.

I have 30 available.

These were fun to create with the "Jolly Bingo Bits" stamp set.  It's difficult to see in the pictures but each of these has watemark stamping on the blue background.

Thanks!
